Chios chalices where found in old Smyrna

Within the scope of the study in which the Chios chalices recovered in Old Smyrna were examined, it was aimed to represent the information previously transmitted by Cook and Akurgal in a more detailed study and more examples. This study, which covers samples recovered before 2014, provides clues about the interaction between Khios and Old Smyrna through chalices. In the thesis consisting of three main parts, in order to understand the details of the study, the details of the methods of the study under the title of materials and methods were indicated in the first part. In the second part, the history of the city discussed. In the last section, the samples were evaluated in both chronological and typological order. Each style is evaluated in entirety by combining it with the style features and representatives of the style. The fact that most of the chalices were captured in small pieces makes it difficult to evaluate both typological and chronological. Its existence in Old Smyrna, which began with the process of the appearance of the chalice form, continues until about 540-530 BC. The available data suggest that trade was interrupted for a short period of time around 600 BC. Perhaps the finds covering this process were fragmented in layers of destruction in the attack of the Alyattes. While some styles are represented by the most magnificent examples, there are no examples of the Grand style or a chalice fragment with inscriptions. However, it is also worth noting that the results may vary with missing parts or samples representing different styles recovered during the ongoing studies.
