Özet (EN)
This study was conducted using an analytical pattern with the aim of evaluating the health beliefs of patients with type 2 diabetes who applied to Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in the city of Al-Nasiriya. Data for patients with type 2 diabetes were collected from March 2022 to May 2022 from 500 patients with type 2 diabetes admitted to Al-Hussein Teaching Hospital in Nasiriyah, Iraq. Research data were collected face-to-face with the patient information form and the Arabic version of the health belief model about diabetes mellitus. A score of four or more from the scale indicates high (positive) health belief, and a score less than four indicates low (negative) health belief. The data are given as frequency distributions, percentages, mean and standard deviations. Since the results of the scale did not have normal distribution, the Kruskal-Wallis test, which is a non-parametric test, was used to compare the data. Ethics committee approval dated 3/11/2022 and numbered 25 was obtained from Çankırı Karatekin University Ethics Committee for the study. Subsequently, the study was presented to the Ethics Committee in Iraq and ethics committee approval was obtained, dated March 13, 2022 and numbered 2022094. Of the patients, 52% were male, 24% were between the ages of 51-60, 95% were married, 54% had completed primary school, 83% were unemployed and 56% lived in rural areas. There was a statistically significant difference between the health belief scale total score, perceived severity, and gender, age ranges, marital status, and educational status (p<0.05). There was a statistical difference between perceived susceptibility and sociodemographic characteristics (age, marital status, education, and occupation). There was a statistically significant difference between perceived barriers to health belief scale and educational status (p<0.05). As a result, patients had poor health beliefs about diabetes.
