Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of using calcium hydroxide-containing Kalsin (Kalsin, Izmir, Turkey), gel form of sodium hypochlorite Chloraxid NaOCl Gel (Cercamed, Stalowo Wola, Poland), and gel form of chlorhexidine (Consepsis Scrubs, Ultradent Products, South Jordan, USA) as intracanal medicaments on the bond strength of bioceramic-based root canal sealer TotalFill RCS (FKG, Le Crêt-du-Locle, Switzerland). In this study, a total of 48 mandibular premolars and canines with intact or minimally decayed crowns, closed apices, single roots, and single canals were utilized. All specimens were prepared using the ProTaper Universal (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, İsviçre) rotary instrument system up to file F3 (#30, 0.09). Subsequently, the teeth were randomly divided into four groups (n=12). In Group 1, Kalsin (Kalsin, Izmir, Turkey) was applied, in Group 2, Consepsis Scrub (Ultradent Products, South Jordan, USA) and in Group 3, Chloraxid NaOCl Gel (Cercamed, Stalowo Wola, Poland) was placed. Group 4 was designated as the control group. All specimens were stored for one week at 37°C in a 100% humid environment. After the removal of medicaments with distilled water and EDTA, canal obturations were performed using TotalFill RCS (FKG, Le Crêt-du-Locle, Switzerland). For curing, all specimens were stored for one week at 37°C in a 100% humid environment. Sections with a thickness of 2 mm were obtained from all specimens, and their bond strengths were measured using a universal testing machine (Lloyd LRX; Lloyd Instruments Ltd, Fareham, United Kingdom). Data were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis H test. In conclusion, the impact of calcium hyroxide paste and gel form intracanal medicaments used in this study on bioceramic-based root canal sealers does not demonstrate a statistically significant difference when compared to the control group (p>0.05). In situations of using intra-canal medicaments for further disinfection, root canals' long term sealing is not affected by usage of bioceramic based root canal sealer after suitable irrigation.
