The study of effective teaching strategies learning process in the sciences course

The aim of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the effective teaching strategies using in the 4. class primary school science lesson and to find out the situation in the teaching process. The research was designed as an action research. It was based on the technical/scientific/collaborative type of action research. The research was applied for 18 students of 4/B class in science lesson in a school, which was in central district of Kahramanmaras, in the spring term of 2015-2016 education year. Criterian sampling method was used for selecting the study group. A teaching plan which was used effective teaching strategies was designed and implemented in the unit of "Lighting and Sound Technologies From Past to the Present" to implement in the teaching process. Teaching applications were carried out to all study group and focus group interviews were held all the students and semi-structured interviews were conducted to the teacher because of determining the condition that occurs. The lesson plan using in the teaching process was designed before the teaching application and the pilot application was carried out during the 6 lessons period. The real application continued for 6 weeks and 23 lessons period. The research data were collected with various tools like; multiple choice test, open ended test and interview forms. The analysis of data were done in two ways as qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The frequency, percentage analysis and t-test were done in the analysis of quantitative data, whereas qualitative data were analyzed by using the content analysis technique. The results showed that the teaching applications supported with the effective teaching strategies have improved students' success and meta-cognitive awareness levels in a positive way. Also a result of the applications, ideas and attitudes of the students to the lesson and the practitioner teacher were positive. Opinions of the students and observer teacher about the teaching process using effective teaching strategies were examined after the teaching applications and it has been concluded that both the teacher and the students had some positive opinions about the practitioner teacher, students and strategies. There were a few negative opinions as one of the students was having difficulty doing the homework and the observer teacher had some opinions about the strategies because they took some time. The practitioner teacher, who was also a researcher, used effective teaching strategies the teaching process and kept a diary during and after the teaching process. Teacher's diary was examined and it was found positive and negative opinions about the teacher, students, strategies and teaching enviroment.
