Fullfilment levels of leadership behaviors of principal according to middle and high school student's perceptions

The purpose of this study is to determine the level of leadership behaviors of the principals according to the perceptions of middle school and high school students. The population of the study consisted of 17 middle schools and 13 high schools in the province of Düzce in the academic year of 2015-2016 and the sample included 600 participants from 8th grade and 12th grade students of high school. Clustering and simple random sampling methods were used for selection of the sample. The data collection tools were demographics forms for 8th and 12th grades and a five-point Likert type "Leadership Behavior Scale" developed by the researcher. Percentage, mean, standard deviation, T test, ANOVA, Tukey HSD test and correlation methods were used in the analysis of the data using "SPSS for Windows" package program. Study findings showed that positive learning climate, communication, accessibility, supervision and education control and evaluation were found to be significantly related to branches and YGS types of students (p<0.05). YGS scores of the students were found to be positively correlated with positive learning climate, communication and accessibility dimensions, while it is negatively correlated with others. The end-term achievement scores of the students were found to be positively related to positive learning climate, supervision and education control and evaluation, encouraging incentive activities dimensions while being positively related to other dimensions. In conclusion, the level of principals' fulfillment of general leadership behaviors were perceived higher in middle school students compared to high school students.
