Investigation of the relationship of online gaming addiction with depression, family loyalty and demographic characteristics in young adults

Today, people's addiction is increasing day by day and it is not only a substance addiction but also a mental health problem seen in many different areas. In this context, online game addiction was discussed in the study. Online game addiction is considered as a form of addiction that occurs with a person's relationship to a situation in almost every area, including social, psychological, economic and cognitive. In this context, the research focused on the relationship between online game addiction and depression, family commitment and demographic variables in young adults. Accordingly, 139 women and 205 men participated in the study. Online Game Addiction Scale, Attachment to Parents and Friends Inventory, and Beck Depression Scale were used in the study. In the study, the relationship between game addiction and depression was found to be significant. Accordingly, game addiction has a predictive effect on depression. However, there is no significant difference between other variables in the study. When the Parental Attachment, Beck Depression Scale was compared over the gender variable, it was found that there was no significant difference between the mean scores obtained from the scales. When the Parent Attachment, Friend Attachment, Beck Depression Scale, and Flawlessness sub-dimension were compared over the educational status variable, it was determined that there was no significant difference between the average scores obtained from the scales. When the Parent Attachment, Friend Attachment, Beck Depression Scale were compared over the marital status variable, it was found that there was no significant difference between the average scores obtained from the scales.
