Assessment of concrete miracles ascribed to the Prophet in the hasâis and delâil literatures within the context of Qur'an

The aim of this study is to investigate the reports cited as evidences to the prophecy of the Prophet in Delâilü?n-Nübüvve of Beyhakî (d. 458/1066) and el-Hasâisü?l-Kübrâ of Suyûtî (d. 911/1505) with regard to the Qur?an and authentic hadiths. The study consists of one introduction part and two other parts. In the introduction and the initial part, the concepts of hasâis, delâil and miracle are handled and the types of miracle are dealt with.The second part deals with the extraordinary events which occurred from the birth of the Prophet to before and after the prophecy as well as reports about physical appearance of the Prophet. Most of these reports are baselessly ascribed to the Prophet and do not correspond to the Qur?an, authentic hadiths and historical facts. In addition, it is stated that the Prophet was raced against other prophets, which was effective on the increase in the number of miracles ascribed to him.In the third section, the concrete miracles ascribed to the Prophets are assessed within the context of Qur?an. Besides, the reasons for the emergence of these miracles are inspected, and consequently, it is stated that Ehl-i hadiths, Jewish tradition and the thought that the features that can be qualified as miracles must also be present for the Prophet are effective on the emergence of these miracles.Keywords: Prophet, Miracle, Evidence, Report.
