Abstract (EN)
OBJECTIVES: In many mammalian and microorganisms, the prolidase enzyme is involved in the proline amino acid cycle and in collagen metabolism. At the same time, plasma prolidase activity is increased in oxidative states. ApoC2 is a type of apoliporothein that participates in the formation of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) in hyperlipidemic individuals. Malondialdehyde (MDA) is a sign of lipid peroxidation in cellular damage. In this study, it was aimed to investigate plasma prolidase enzyme activity, ApoC2 and malondialdehyde in hyperlipidemic patients in childhood and to investigate their relation with each other. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Age and gender matched 40 patients and 40 healthy children with hyperlipidemia were included in the study. Prolidase enzyme activity was measured by modified Chinard method, MDA by thiobarbituric acid assay and ApoC2 by ELISA method. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of age and gender (p> 0,05). Prolidase enzyme activity, ApoC2 and malondialdehyde levels were significantly higher in hyperlipidemia group than control group (p <0,05). CONCLUSIONS: In the light of the results obtained, hyperlipidemic oxidant molecules are thought to originate from childhood and damage to the cellular dimensions.
