Abstract (EN)
This study examines the views of university students on the use of smartphones, which have become an indispensable element in both everyday life and communication of business life. The sample of the research consists of 324 students who were educated in the first, second, third and fourth classes of Radio Television and Cinema Department of Fırat University Communication Faculty in the academic year of 2016-2017. In order to reflect the opinions of university students about smartphone usage " Smart Phone Usage Opinion Survey " which is credible and validated by Kakı (2014) is used and in order to obtain detailed information about the questionnaire form and smart phone usage 'Smartphone Usage Usage Opinion Form " which is prepared by expert 's opinion by the researcher is used. Mixed research design was applied in the thesis. In the quantitative part of the study, a screening method was used to determine the opinions of university students regarding smartphone use. In the qualitative part of the study, interview techniques were used to reflect the views of university students regarding smartphone use. 36 students selected voluntarily from the students were interviewed through an open-ended questionnaire. Thus detailed information about the the convenience of smartphone use in everyday life, smartphone usage purposes, the communication effect of the use of smartphones in the social environment, the impact of social media sharing via smartphones, impact of promotional and marketing activities on smartphones on purchasing behavior and views on the negative aspects of smartphone usage has been provided. The research data was collected through a questionnaire form and an interview form consisting of open ended questions. In the analysis of the data, the percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean and standard deviation are used. Content analysis method was used in analysis of interview data. The obtained interview data was coded, the themes were formed and analyzed and interpreted in this frame. According to the results of the research, it is seen that university students have negative views as well as positive opinions about smart phone usage. Content analysis based on the opinions of the students showed that smartphones made it easier for students to make bill payments in daily life, to find moving hours of public transportation vehicles, to make notes in class and to facilitate access to information. It has been founded that it have positive and negative effects on students communication with their social environment, while increasing communication by providing visual and voice conversation to the remote environment, it reduces communication by reducing socialization if students are too busy with smartphones in close vicinity. It has been determined that promotional and marketing activities made with smartphones have positive and negative effects on purchasing behavior. Some students expressed a positive opinion because they provided more information about the advertised product and provided faster access to the product, while others expressed a negative opinion for security reasons and not having the opportunity to try the product. Social media sharing made with smartphones It has been determined that it has a positive effect on students since there isn't information about the sharing or the person who make the sharing and it has a negative effect because it causes care for the lives that are shared. In general, it has determined that university students have more positive than negative aspects of smart phone usage.
