The effects of beliefs about the relationship and cognitive distorions on marriage harmony

During marriage, essensial changes can occur and these changes can affect marriage either positively or negatively. Recent studies about the subject mainly focus on the content of spouses beliefs. The reason for this is some of the ralationship beliefs are not considered as functional hence cause spouses to unhappines. Spouses reflect their requests, demands and beliefs to the marriage and when these requests are not componsated incoherencies and problems can occur in marital relationships. Present study aims to investigate the affects of cognitive distortions and beliefs to marital coherency. 240 married individuals from Turkey have volunteered fort his research, of whom 176 are female and 64 are male. In order to determine the demographic traits a "Demographic Survey" was used, to determine the coherence of marriage Marital Adjustment Scale, Relationship Belief Invantory and Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scle have been employed. The data has been collected by filling out the online survey. Data gained from the research has been gathered under three categories. Inıtially data purging prior to analysis, descriptive statistics (for ex. avarege and standard deviation) and correlations between variables. Thereon group differences between variables were presented. Lastly, hierarchical regression analysis have been applied. Keywords: Marriage, married individuals, beliefs, marital adjustment
