Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to determine the effect of pre-procedural information on anxiety and pain levels in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrostomy for the first time. In addition, the effect of variables such as gender, age, education level, and medical history of the patients on anxiety was investigated. A total of 100 patients, 72 males and 28 females, aged between 18-84 years, who applied for percutaneous nephrostomy for the first time in the Department of Radiology of Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty, were included in the study. "Personal Information Form", "State Trait Anxiety Scale (STAI)" and "Visual Analog Scale (VAS)" were applied to the patients in order to measure the variables included in the study. In the patients of the study group who are informed before the procedure, the anxiety level was found to be significantly lower than the control group. In women and in those who received psychological or psychiatric help, anxiety levels were found to be higher. There was no significant difference in pain levels between two groups. According to the results of our study, in patients who will undergo percutaneous nephrotomy, pre-procedural informing decreases the anxiety, thus contributing to process success and patient satisfaction.
