DETERMINING MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION TECHNIQUES WH CH ISAPPROPRIOTE FOR ACTIVE EDUCATION MODELS USED FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL 7THGRADE SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE LECTURESerap POYRAZCelal Bayar Üniversitesi, Eğitim FakültesiABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to determine techniques of measurement and evaluationwhich are used in instruction of Science lesson of the seventh class. The appropriaterss ofthese measurement techniques to cooperative learning method, an active teaching model, isdetermined. The population of the study consists of 910 students at two schools CumhuriyetElementary School and Arif Canpoyraz Elementary school which are in Turgutlu (district ofManisa in Turkey). The sample of the study is consist of 209 students who are in the eighthclass. The study was fullfilled between January 2004 and December 2004. The final test groupmodel?s was as an experimentall desing. In the study there was one experimental group.Different techniques of measurement and evaluation were applied to the experiment group afterScience lesson teaching by cooperative learning techniques. In this study the data is analayzed by using ?t? test, Fisher?s changement test fordependent groups and ANOVA test for one way simple repetition measurement and also theother ?t? test for independent groups and to estinate the reliability of the measurement tools. Results of different measurement techniques used in the study have beencompared with aimed behaviors at Science lessons by using cooperative learning techniquethus the following findings have been abtained. There are no significant differences betweenmultiple choice questions scores and true-folse questions scores. There is a significantdifference between short essay questions scores and multiple choice questions scorces. Moreover, it has been found that there is a significant difference between scores from shortessay questions and scores from true-folse questions. As a result, true-folse questions are aseffective as multiple choice questions in measuring success and short essay questions arelesser effective than the others (multiple choice questions and true-folce questions).Key Words: Elementary School, Science, Active Learning, Cooperative LearningTechnique, Measurement, Evaluation.
