Teaching of atomic structure and periodic table unit within journey through interior structure of substance for 7th grade in prime education on computer with educational games and modelling

In this study, the effects of teaching performed through the individual use of computers bythe students by means of educational games designed on computer for teaching the Structure ofAtom and Periodic Table within the unit ?Exploring the Interior Structure of Material? in NaturalthSciences course at 7 grade in primary education and also the effects of traditional teaching on thesuccess of students have been examined.A new software of game has been prepared on the computer in compliance with thecharacteristics of the subject of study to be used for the experiment group in the research.After a preliminary test was applied on the experiment and control groups prior to theapplication, the ANOVA was applied on the preminary test data in order to test the equality of thegroups. Then, by means of educational games designed on the computer in accordance with theresults of ANOVA, it has been determined that there were not any expressive differences betweenintial levels of experiment and control groups to whom such teaching and the traditional teachingwould be applied.Both groups were subjected to final-tests after the subject was taught with differentmethods, and then the t-test was applied on the results obtained. It has been determined with theexamination of t- test results that there was an expressive difference between the test grades ofexperiment and control groups to whom the teaching would be applied.As a result of those process, it has been observed that the teaching performed by means ofeducational games designed on the computer was more successful in comparison with thetraditional method.Through the t-test it has been examined whether there was a relation between thecomprehension levels and the sexes of students during the application of teaching by means ofeducational games on the computer; in conclusion, it has been determined that the male studentsgot higher grades in teaching by means of educational games on the computer.Furthermore, the efect of the presence of a computer at the residances of students on thelevel of comprehension during teaching by means of educational games on the computer has beentested again through the test and no expressive differences were determined.
