The relation between teachers', who are working at elementary schools, attitudes towards female administrators and leadership styles which they sensed in female administrators

Women take place more in working life as economic, social and culturel changes start to be lived in World and Turkey. But increase in the number of women in administration can't be seen in the same percentage of working women number increase. Although, women have numerical superiority, their amount in management level is low as well in Turkish National Education System. It is thought that, teachers' point of view on female administrators and their acceptions them as leaders affects directly, these women's attitudes to administration, their taking place and their progress.In this research, teachers' and elementary school teachers', attitudes towards female administrators and leadership behaviours they sensed in female administrators are analysed whether they change significantly and statistically according to teachers' gender, age, seniority, education level, branch, marital status, graduation faculty and duration of work between teacher and female administrator variants.Elementary school teachers, who are working 55 elementary schools, connected to Ministery of Education, in Kadıköy district compose universe of research. And the sample of the research are 370 teachers working at 28 schools out of 55, which have female administrators.While the search is being done, consisting of 29 clause and 3 sub-categories Likert Scale, Attitude Scale Towards Female Administrators, developed by Berkman YA and Aycan Z (2005) and consisting of 22 questions and 2 sub-categories Likert Scale, Leadership Behaviours Scale, developed by Demir H and Tarhan O (2008) Also, With the personal information form, the desired demographic characteristics of the teachers are identified. By using the SPSS 15.0 package program on resolving the datas, frequency and percentage values of demographic characteristics were examined; the arithmetic avarages and standard inequality of the points, which is collected from the scales, were calculated; t test, variance analysis(One-Way ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis-H test were done in the difference tests. Pearson Correlation analysis was done in relational analysis.It is identified that the leadership attitudes that teachers perceive on woman administrators show differences according to the graduated school and the factor of the duration while working with woman administrator. It is identified that the attitudes of teachers towards the woman administrator changes significantly according to gender, the school that she graduated from, major and the duration while working with woman diretor. It is identified that there are a significant relation between the leadership attitudes that teachers perceive and the attitudes towards woman administrator; and between sub-dimensions of perceived leadership attitudes and sub-dimensions of the attitudes towards woman administrator.Key Words: Leader, Transformational Leader, Interactionist Leader, Woman Administrators, Woman Leader, Attitude
