The effect of musical nuance and rhythmic structures on the listening comprehension of 3rd grade students

In this study, it is aimed to ease for students to listening compherension and make opponent listen by using some of dynamics of music in listening text. For this purpose, musical nuance and rhytmic structures were used in listening text. This study is thought to be important as it will provide easier ways for students by diversifying the act of listening that covers a large part of our academic education life. The study was conducted on 78 third grade students studying in Atatürk Primary School attached to Ministry of Education in Gölbaşı district of Ankara province in 2018-2019 school year. In this study, paired design pretest-posttest design in quasi-experimental designs. In the study, "Listening Comprehension Achievement Test" developed by Bulut and Karasakaloğlu (2012) was applied to the experimental and control groups as pretest. Afterwards, the texts that restructured with musical dynamics were applied to the experimental group, while the text appied to the control group was not changed. The study was conducted with one week intervals and lasted 7 weeks. SPSS 23. (IBM) packaged software was used in the analysis of the data in the study. "Paired Sample t Test" was used to determine the difference between dependent variables and "Independent Sample t Test" was used to determine the difference between independent variables. According to the analysis results; using of musical nuance and rhythmic structures in the listening texts was not statistically significant however there was a significant increase in the pretest-posttest score differences of the experimental group. In addition, it was concluded that the rhythmic structures used in the texts were more effective than the nuances however, the nuances were not affect the students negatively.
