Abstract (EN)

From April 1 to May 15, 2022, NPAg chia seed extract (60mg/kg) was tested in streptozotocin-induced diabetic male rats. 80 male rats were used (56 days old, 13510g). 60 male rats get diabetes by streptozotocin (60 mg/kg b.w., i.p.). Above 200 mg/dL indicates diabetes. Intact and streptozotocin-induced diabetic male rats were separated into four groups of 20: intact (C), diabetic (D), NPAg chia seed extract (60mg/kg) treated (N), and insulin treated (I) (I). 15-25-35-day studies were conducted on diabetic and undamaged mice. Normal saline (100l, sc)-injected animals were gavaged with water daily. Daily injections of normal saline and NPAg chia seed extract were given to diabetic rats. Weighings were taken daily. All overnight-fasting animals were killed with xylazine and ketamine (10mg and 90mg/kg, ip). Tail vein blood samples assessed plasma glucose. Diabetes untreated and insulin-treated groups gained less weight than intact control and NPAg chia seed extract treatment groups. D gained the least weight throughout the three-year experiment. Diabetes groups showed greater glucose than controls. NPAg chia seed extract and insulin-treated diabetic animals showed lower glucose levels after 25 and 35 days than untreated diabetic rats.
