British political history (1763-1815)

This study examines the process of England's rise to the hegemonic position in 18th century Europe. In this context, the relationship between the navy and the insular security; the relationship of maritime with the shift of trade to the oceans; the relationship between Protestant reformation -which the kingdom adopted- as its official ideology- and identity construction which differs from western Europe; discussed with its effects on hegemony. First of all, the history of the British Isles up to the Middle Ages is outlined in order to identify structural changes. Then, the transformation of the British Parliament and the British Monarchy, which formed the British political power in the Early modern period, through the reformation process is discussed. In doing so, from the Stuart period (beginning of the 17th century); The "Crypto Catholic" issue -which is one of the threat perceptions- that shape dynastic security, political power and foreign policy, is evaluated with its effects on the Parliament and the Monarchy. "Personal Union" practice, which is one of the succession methods in the Monarchy issue, is examined with the effects of the British foreign policy on the continental politics. Finally, the extent and effectiveness of the military-fiscal state model has taken place in the British state mechanism is examined. While doing this, it is examined to what extent the state mechanism can gather economic power through the fiscal system and to what extent it can transform it into army-navy institutions and interstate relations as a coersive power.
