Özet (EN)
Objective The pregnancy interval is defined as the time between the termination of one pregnancy and the beginning of the next. The World Health Organization has recommended an interval of at least 24 months for the time it takes for women to have a healthy pregnancy after a previous birth, and thus at least 33 months for the interval between two consecutive births. Short pregnancy interval in the literature; Complications such as maternal anemia, preterm delivery, premature rupture of membranes, preeclampsia, placental abruption, congenital anomaly, low birth weight, autism, fetal, neonatal and maternal death have been reported. The fact that the duration of the gestational interval is an important independent biological risk factor for adverse pregnancy events is important for the planning of the pregnancy interval. Women have control over their pregnancy intervals and potentially negative outcomes can be reduced. For this reason, it is important to examine the factors that affect the pregnancy interval of women to be shorter than 24 months and to make interventions in this direction, both in terms of healthy pregnancies for mothers and healthy children. The purpose of this research; It aims to examine the factors affecting the short pregnancy interval in women who have given birth in the last 5 years. Methods Qualitative study (Quantitative study), Phenomenological type and Cross-sectional analytical study were used together in this study, which was planned in a mixed model, and saturation was reached with face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 25 women for qualitative study from women who applied to family health centers affiliated to Izmir Dokuz Eylul University Hospital. Afterwards, questionnaire questions prepared in line with the themes obtained as a result of the qualitative study were applied by interviewing 278 women who volunteered to participate in the study, registered in the family health centers of Izmir Dokuz Eylul University Hospital. Results In the interviews conducted with women with a short pregnancy interval, under the heading of the planning status of pregnancy; The findings revealed that the pregnancy process was not regulated, the spouse's desire for children was prioritized, and being a parent at an advanced age was seen as a negative situation. For the age difference between two siblings; mothers think that siblings lead each other and find that raising one child and raising more than one child at the same time are similar in terms of caregivers. It was found that the choice of family planning and birth control methods was left to the spouse and the spouse was concerned about the side effects of these methods. As a result of the short pregnancy interval, women; He stated that they experienced negative processes such as the conflict of physiological needs of the siblings, the difficulty of the mother during pregnancy and delivery due to frequent pregnancies, and being criticized by health professionals for seeing this situation as negative. Pregnancy interval and participants' age, education level, employment status, spouse's education level, household income level, age at first conception, total number of pregnancies, number of living children, ideal number of children, ideal age difference between siblings, time to conceive again, A statistical relationship was found between the effect of the immediate environment and the family planning and birth control methods used. In the survey questions, a statistical difference was found between 21 of 39 propositions and the pregnancy interval. Conclusion It has been observed that the spouses have a greater say than expected on the fertility of women. We are of the opinion that spouses should be more involved in environments where fertility-related regulations are discussed, and that the partners should be informed about the method together and the results should be discussed while providing family planning consultancy services.
