Investigation of the effect of radiation risk perceptions of healthcare personnel working with ionizing radiation on job satisfaction

With the development of medical technology in the world, important developments have been recorded in the health field. Radiation has been present naturally or artificially at every stage of life since the beginning of the universe. After discovering ionizing radiation, rapidly developing technologies made this possible by adding diagnostic and therapeutic radiation. Radiological examinations in health services have begun to pose serious risks for patients and healthcare workers in ionizing radiation environments. This study was carried out to examine the effect of radiation risk perceptions of health personnel working with ionizing radiation on their job satisfaction. The study was designed in a quantitative research design. The relational survey model questioning the current situation was used in the research. The research population consisted of 150 healthcare professionals working in environments containing ionizing radiation between 01 April 2022 and 25 May 2022 in a university and state hospital in a province in the Central Black Sea Region. In the study, the sampling method was not used, and the whole universe was tried to be reached. As a result of the data collection period, the study sample consisted of 141 healthcare professionals. "Occupational Ionizing Radiation Risk Perception Questionnaire" and "Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale" were used to collect data in the study. The data obtained in the research were analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 26.0 program. For statistical significance, the p<0.05 significance level was accepted. As a result of the research, it was seen that the job satisfaction levels of most health personnel were high, and the level of life anxiety increased with the increase in the level of radiation risk perception.
