Examining job satisfaction levels and the need for in-service training of civil servants: The sample for the metropolitan municipality of Adana

This research is carried out to determine the need for in-service training of employees working in public bodies and examine the job satisfaction levels of them. Descriptive and statistical analyses are made to evaluate the relation between in-service training and job satisfaction and determine the need for in-service training in this study. The research is done in a group of 363 staff members working in different units of the Metropolitan Municipality of Adana. The participants filled out a survey consisting of 2 parts which is about their personal information and views on in-service training and Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire is completed by them to find their job satisfaction levels. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, percentage distribution, and frequency are found and t-test and one-way analyses of variance are carried out to have the descriptive statistics of the data analysed in the statistical package program SPSS 23.0. The research revealed that the majority of staff members have participated at least one in-service training and although they find the quality of these trainings sufficient, they think the trainings can be still better. It is seen that there is not a direct relation between job satisfaction levels of employees and in-service training.
