The analysis of Fi̇ki̇rtepe urban transformation project in de context of urban identity

In this study, the details of urban renewal project which is started in Fikirtepe and opinions of Fikirtepe people on this project are included. Fikirtepe people's opinions are measured by surveying. Social aim of urban transformation is to convey the environment of people to healtier and safer standarts, to hinder socially regression and to reduce differences between neighbourhood. Urban transformation project, which is started in Fikirtepe, is discussed and continously remains on the agenda at its all points. The survey consists of 17 questions is applied to 100 people and results are evaluated statistically. According to the results, 68% of landholder people in Fikirtepe (51%) has declared that they still negotiate with construction companies for urban renewal project. The projects of only 38% of those people who signed a contract are started. 62% of neighbourhood residents lean towards urban renewal. 88% of people has declared that they want common living space within the scope of urban renewal project. While 29% of survey participants has knowledge about legal legislation, 30 % of them has not. 52% of people has declared that they think neighbourhood concept will be destroyed when urban renewal completed. 39% of neighbourhood residents has declared that they do not want to live in Fikirtepe after project. 73% of survey participants has declared that their relations with their neighbours were quite well before project and the 77% of people think their relations will be harmed. 69% of people believe the necessity of urban renewal, and 54% of people lean towards the process from the beginning of project until now. According to survey results, people are satisfied with project in general and seem to be hopeful. In addition, number of projects started to build are fewer than expected.
