The relationship between upper extremity muscle strength and functional capacity, muscular endurance and quality of life in cystic fibrosis patients

The Relationship Between Upper Extremity Muscle Strength And Functional Capacity, Muscular Endurance And Quality Of Life In Cystic Fibrosis Patients. This study was designed to investigate of the relationship between upper extremity muscle strength and functional capacity, muscular endurance and quality of life in cystic fibrosis patients. The study a total of 29 patients, 15 women and 14 men aged 6 years and over participated in this study. Individuals were assessed for upper extremity muscle strength, lung function test, muscular endurance, functional capacity and quality of life. . According to the result of study; it was observed that moderate relationship between shoulder abduction muscle strength and muscular endurance (r: 0,462 p<0,05), moderate relationship between biceps muscle strength and muscular endurance (r: 0.402 p <0.05), slight relationship between hand grip strength (left) and muscular endurance (r: 0,381 p<0,05), moderate relationship between hand grip strength (right) and muscular endurance. It was determined that slightly relationship between biceps muscle strength and FEV1(%), FVC(%), PEF(L) (r1:0,388 r2:0,398 r3:0,392 p<0,05). It was found that there was no relationship biceps muscle strength with other muscular strengths. It was assign that slightly relationship between biceps muscle strength and quality of life eating disorder subscane (r:0,381 p<0,05), there was no relationship between upper extremity muscle strength and the 6-min walk test (p>0,05). As a result, we think decreases in upper extremity muscle strength patients with cystic fibrosis and physiotherapists should also take into account upper extremity muscle strength while giving strengthening training, which will affect positively lung function and quality of life.
