Abstract (EN)
2. ABSTRACT Inspection of Stool Samples Obtained from Patients that Applied to Fırat University Hospital Pediatric Gastroenterology Polyclinic with Stomach Pain Complaint for Helicobacter Pylori Stool Antigen and Comparison with Biopsy Samples Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a microaerophilic gram-negative bacterium that settles in human gastric mucosa with curls, spiral, unipolar, active with numerous flagella and with a dimension of 0.5 / 2.5 microns. H. pylori is a factor that was considered responsible for gastritis and ulcer that are prevalent in every age and social group, and several studies were conducted on this bacterium in Turkey during recent years. In studies conducted in Turkey and globally, it was reported that it is the cause of stomach carcinoma (especially MALT lymphoma) and varied clinical complaints in addition to gastritis and peptic ulcer. There are alotof past and present studies conducted on the prevalence and diagnosis of H. pylori, which is an extremely significant factor. Since gold diagnostic criteria are not yet established, advanced studies are conducted on easy, applicable, inexpensive, simple and non-risky methods. Since all invasive methods carry a certain risk factor, non-invasive diagnostic tests are preferred unless absolutely necessary. Although pathological examination of the samples incised with endoscopic method is considered as the main criterion, antigen and antibody inspection methods that do not require endoscopy (non-invasive) are being preferred. The present study is conducted to determine the diagnostic value antigen inspection with cortex methodology in the stool of children with various H. Pylori complaints and who underwent endoscopy. The study was conducted with patients that applied to Fırat University Pediatric Gastroenterology Polyclinic between October 2014 and September 2015. Findings obtained by the method of investigating H. pylori antigen in stool were compared with pathological examination results and discussed. The study was conducted with 50 children with endoscopy indication (6 – 18 years old) and 50 individuals in the control group. As a result of Giemsa staining examination of pathological samples, 47 (94%) positive cases were identified, while stool antigen test indicated 37 (74%) H.pylori positive cases in the same group. Pathological examination yielded 14 (28%) H. pylori positive cases and 3 (6%) antigen positive cases were determined among 50 control cases. The difference was statistically p < 0.05 (p = 0.000). Conducted examinations and discussions demonstrated that antigen (H. pylori) inspection method was an easy, inexpensive and non-risky method and also, stool antigen test sensitivity was suitable as a H. pylori diagnostic criterion and it could be used in epidemiological studies comfortably. Key Words: H. pylori, H. pylori stool antigen test, MALT lymphoma.
