M. Tayyar Dabbağoğlu's life and activities

In this study, it is aimed to analyse the municipalism operations of Tayyar Dabbağoğlu who has been successful in this field although he's been in political life of Van for a while. Tayyar Dabbağoğlu was born on 9th February of 1933 in Van and when he was 3 years old, his father lost his life and then he finished his education of primary school, secondary school and high school in Van. He got accepted into Military Medical Faculty of İstanbul University in 1954 but he dropped out the school after a while. After he performed his military service as reserve officer in Konya in 1960, he got married with Süleyha Dabbağoğlu who knew her from the Military School, too. In 1973 Dabbağoğlu who took part in the elections as an independent mayor candidate won Van Mayor Elections and became the Mayor of Van on 9th December despite of the significant political agents of the period. The significant developments placed in the period of Tayyar Dabbağoğlu on behalf of Van, which is an ancient city in the geography of Anatolia, to make a modern city and to provide an economic and cultural progress. 1970s is the period for Van in which has started to be a city. Thus Tayyar Dabbağoğlu who was the Mayor in 1973- 1977 did a lot of activities not only for requests of townspeople in Van but also on behalf of a real identity formation of Van. There has been significant well-known activities of Tayyar Dabbağoğlu in the period of the mayor's office which includes groundworks, light power works of the city, founding universities, road works, health works, economic works, water problems of the city, and cultural works. During the study it has been utilized from the private archive of Tayyar Dabbağoğlu, periodicals archive and the interviews of the people who have witnessed the period of Tayyar Dabbağoğlu.
