Operation structure and fonctioning of Maçka Military Armory (1873-1922)

The subject of thesis is organizational structure and functioning of Maçka military Armory, one of the four military armory of the Ottoman Empire in Istanbul. This military structure, which was the central armory of the Ottoman Empire, is today used as the Faculty of Foreign Languages of Istanbul Technical University. There are many academic studies on the Maçka Armory. However, these works were mostly carried out by the architecture and restoration department, and the organizational structure and functioning of Silahhane-i Amire was not mentioned. Therefore, the mentioned arsenal should be handled at an institutional aspect. In addition, the study of the subject is important in terms of showing the effect of Westernization on the organization and operation of the Ottoman military establishments. In study, the importance attached to the military organization of the Ottoman Empire was explained with an example of a military establishment. In this central Armory of the Ottoman Empire, the latest system weapons and ammunition from Tophane-i Amire factories and imported from Europe were stored. Besides being a center where important weapons and ammunition were collected, Maçka Armory was also a center where weapons and ammunition were distributed within the Ottoman country. These issues are explained in detail in thesis. Document analysis method was used in the preparation of thesis. Accordingly, first a detailed literature review was made and then archive documents related to the subject were obtained. The materials we obtained were processed in chronological order in the thesis study and evaluations were made about them. In addition to these, the original copies of the tables, graphics and documents related to the subject of thesis are included. The table and graphic were prepared according to the information obtained from the documents that can be detected from the BOA.
