A sociological research on the religious attitudes and behaviour of drug addicts during the period of drug withdrawal: The case of Bursa GADEM

The world has been come across the event that increasing drug addiction among young people at the junction of radical alterations of social values system and lifestyles because of the improvements in transportation, communication, chemistry and the rapid technological developments thanks to modern age. Considered its geographical location, our country is located in which the region has the high-risk for the two-way drug traffic between Asia and Europe. Drug addiction is a social problem that makes it to become wear in terms of physiological, psychological and economic for the individual, family and society they live in. In our country, by forensic, medical and clinical approaches it is dealt with drug addiction within all-round, yet the desired output couldn't be achieved in the action. Lately, faithful oriented approaches tried in addition to existing ones draw attention. This study aims to investigate the effect of religious attitudes of people on their motivation to quit from drug abuse on the basis of fighting. The study comprises a face-to-face questionnaire with 150 drug addicts who received help and support from The Center of Youth and Family Support, where Bursa Metropolitan Municipality provides free counseling service for drug abused young people and their families in the city, and consists of the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data obtained from focus-group conversations with individuals who are over a year, which is a critical point in adapting to life without any drug. In this study, it was found that there is a positive relationship between the motivation to quit from drug abuse besides stay with no drug and religious belief and emotion.
