Medya, milliyetçilik ve şiddet: "Öteki" ile ilgili bir haberin söylem analizi

While the concept of globalization has damaged the structure of nation-state, it also has brought up the nationalism onto stage again, thereby bringing the local values and norms against global ones. Therefore, it would be appropriate to talk about a re-birth of a new nationalism rather than the disappearance of it. It is unquestionable that media plays a big part both in the imagination of a "nation" and in its discursive re-production. The media produces nationalist discourse anew and instigates violence against the "others", who are excluded in the definition of national identity in Turkey. In this study, using the Teun A. Van Dijk's methods of "Critical Discourse Analysis", it is analyzed whether or not the most popular news web sites in Turkey use the nationalist discourse as the conventional media does.
