Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strengths (SBS) and adhesive remnant index (ARI) of two color change adhesives systems, new BracePaste adhesive paste (American Orthodontics, Sheboygan, WI) and, common Transbond Plus adhesive paste (3M Unitech, Monrovia, CA, U.S.A.), in bonding of metal brackets. Materials and methods: 60 human upper premolar teeth were divided into 2 groups, For bonding, with both the adhesive paste same steps were followed, according to the manufacturer's instructions. The samples were thermocycled between 5° and 55° for 500 cycles. The specimens were stored at 37° in distilled water for 24 hours before SBS testing on a universal testing machine. Results: Statistically significant difference in the shear bond strength between the two groups. The highest SBS was observed in the Transbond Plus with a mean range of (11.03 ± 1.41) Mpa, and the mean range of the BracePaste was (7.79 ± 1.16) Mpa. However, BracePaste SBS value is considered clinically acceptable. ARI scoring showed that most of the debondings occurred in the adhesive layer. The ARI scores of Transbond Plus and BracePaste groups did not exhibit a statistically significant difference. Conclusion: Our results were based on in-vitro laboratory conditions, and the clinical relevance of our findings should also be confirmed with in-vivo studies. Further clinical studies are needed to substantiate the conclusions from this investigation. Both the adhesives had sufficient SBS values for a clinical use. Key words: Shear bond strength, Transbond Plus adhesive , BracePaste color change adhesive.
