Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki and His Hadith Methodology

Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki is a scholar who came to the forefront with his studies on hadith and hadith methodology. The fact that Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki's area of expertise was hadith did not prevent him from leaving significant works in other branches of science such as creed, tafsir, sirah, fiqh, kalam and mysticism. Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki received his first education from family elders, attended the lectures of influential scholars of the period, worked in different countries and universities, and became the Head of the Hadith Department of Umm al-Qurra University. Meanwhile, he wrote the book named 'Mefâhîm Yecibu en Tüsahhah'. This work has been translated into many languages and has made a sound in the İslâmic world. Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki had to leave Mecca and go to Indonesia under the influence of this work. During his time in Indonesia, he trained many students and opened more than seventy schools, madrasas, Qur'an courses and a university. Due to his activities here, he had hundreds of thousands of students in the Far East in a short time. He made scientific trips to countries such as Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan and India and visited scholars in these countries. Thanks to these travels, he had the opportunity to do research in the field of muselsal hadith, which is his area of expertise in the science of hadith. He became an authority on this subject by collecting the muselsal hadiths found in hadith scholars in different geographies. In this respect, the aim of our study is to investigate the contributions of Muhammad b. Alawi al-Maliki to the science of hadith and to determine his scientific position.
