Özet (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between object relations, rumination, approval-seeking, and self-compassion. Self-compassion is a fundamental construct that shapes one's attitude toward the self and supports psychological well-being. Object relations are rooted in early attachment experiences and, together with cognitive-emotional processes such as rumination and approval-seeking, influence the individual's self-perception. The study was conducted using a correlational design. Data were collected from 400 participants through the BORRTI Object Relations Inventory, the Emotional Schema Scale (approval-seeking and rumination subscales), and the Self-Compassion Scale. Analyses were carried out using SPSS, including correlation, t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression. Findings revealed that object relations, rumination, and approval-seeking together explained 40% of the variance in self-compassion. A moderately-high positive correlation was found between object relations and self-compassion, and a moderate negative correlation was found between rumination and self-compassion. Approval-seeking showed a positive correlation with self-compassion. Regarding demographic variables, women reported higher levels of self-compassion compared to men, while participants with a history of psychotherapy had lower scores. No significant differences were found in terms of family size or income level. In conclusion, self-compassion is not merely an individual trait but a multidimensional capacity shaped by early relational experiences and cognitive processes. The findings highlight the role of cultural context and underline the importance of enhancing self-compassion in clinical practice, particularly in breaking ruminative cycles.
