Non-verbal communication skills for effective presentation in EFL

In this study, the level of awareness on non-verbal communication skills of the experienced English teachers at Çukurova University Foreign Language Education Center (YADİM), and how effectively they use their body language in classroom presentations were investigated. A case study was conducted with 10 teachers at YADİM, and both qualitative and quantitative research designs were used.A questionnaire survey was applied to the group and the levels of proficiency on non-verbal communication was observed through video recordings and dairies during the lessons. Then, a development training was given to the participating group by the researcher for one hour a week for a period of four weeks. At the end of the four-week period, the same questionnaire and observations were repeated and the improvements were investigated.The results of this study provide information on the non-verbal communication skills of a group of teachers in foreign language classes where English is taught, and suggests the contributions and necessity of a training to improve non-verbal communication skills.
