Nurses' knowledge toward care of unconscious adult patients at teaching hospitals in Nasiriyah city

The study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge level of nurses who care for unconscious adult patients. The research is a descriptive cross-sectional study. It was conducted between December 2022 and April 2023 in teaching hospitals in Nasiriyah. The research population consisted of nurses working in these hospitals. The sample of the study consisted of 150 male and female nurses who agreed to participate in the study at the time the data were collected. "Socio-demographic information form" was used to collect data. In addition, "Nurses' caregiving knowledge scale for unconscious adult patients" was used. The largest number of the study group was between the ages of 28% 25-34 age, 80.70% females, 56.00% a graduate of associate diploma degree. 67.3% had a good knowledge of the "Nurses' knowledge of caring for unconscious adult patients" scale. There is a statistically significant effect between age, gender, education level, experience in nursing, ICU experience period and working shift and nursing knowledge towards caring for unconscious adult patients (p<0.05). Nurses with 21 years or more of experience and night shift nurses were found to have higher levels of knowledge about unconscious adult patient care (p≤0.05). The results of the study showed that nurses in teaching hospitals in Nasiriyah city have a good level of knowledge towards caring for unconscious adult patients. The study is limited to only two hospitals in the city of Nasriyah. Therefore, a more comprehensive study is recommended.
