Abstract (EN)

The descriptive study was carried to evaluate social adjustment and quality of life in patients with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The studys data collection process was carried out on 114 patients with OCD during January 2015-August 2015 which admitted to psychiatric polyclinic of a hospital. Data of patients was collected by using Yale–Brown Obsessive–Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), the World Health Organization Quality of Life Measurement Instrument Short Form, Turkish Version (WHOQOL-BREF TR) and Social Adaptation Self-Evaluation Scale (SASS). %57.9 of participants were female. It was found that the most frequent obsession was contamination obsession (%55.3) and cleaning compulsion (%62.3). SASS mean score was 32.48±11.84, Y-BOCS total mean score 21.21±10.53, WHOQOL-BREF-TR scale sub dimensions mean score at physical domain 12.00±3.52, psychological domain 11.87±3.78, social domain 10.59±4.41, environmental domain 12.06±2.92. It was found that there was a positive relationship between SASS and all domain of WHOQOL-BREF-TR (p<0.05). There was a negative relationship between Y-BOCS scores with SASS and all domain of WHOQOL-BREF TR (p<0.05). According to the study social adjustment and quality of life in patients was lower than expected, the social adjustment was associated with the quality of life. Obsessive compulsive symptom severity was associated negatively with quality of life and social adjustment (p<0.05).
