Teachers' expectations from the unions: Istanbul case

The need to find the expectations of teachers in terms of union membership constitutes the basis of this research. To achieve this aim, a large theorical study has been done. First of all, there was a need to understand the development and the actual conditions of labor unions. Then, teacher?s unions organizational chracteristics, their development, functions and activities have been studied in terms of Turkey, USA and some European countries. According to the theoretical research data, a questionnaire has been prepared. During application of the questionnaire, it is used maximum diversification of sampling as a technique.The first process of this research periodicty and percents are found related to transient variety and questionnaire. At the second process, for an item, Independent Group ?T? test is used in order to determine discrepancies between independent variables which are in two categories. One Sided Varience ( ANOVA) analysis processes are carried out to determine discrepancies between mark averages related to the continuous variables if the independent variables ara more than two. The all statistical analysis of research are carried out with SPSS for WINDOWS program.Before the research, it was considered that there had been economical, social and political expectations of teacher?s from unions. As a result of the research, their economical expectations have appeared higher than the others. Pre-existing hypothesis related teacher?s expectations from unions were that they have been looking for protection of their rights and interests, ownership of a social network of solidarity and running a bussiness out of daily politics, have been proved with research results.
