Personal characteristics of school managers and teachers' attitudes to the school

In this research, the personality traits of school administrators and teachers' attitudes towards the school were examined according to the variables of gender, professional seniority, length of service in schools and education level. The research was formed with the participation of school principals, assistant principals and teachers working in all official primary, secondary and high schools in Sakarya province Hendek district in the 2022-2023 academic year. 84 school administrators and 428 teachers participated in the research. Two different scales were used in the study, namely the five factor personality scale and the teachers' attitude scale towards school. In the analysis of the data obtained within the scope of the research; Descriptive statistics including techniques such as percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and meaningful statistical techniques such as t-test, Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis test, and one-way analysis of variance were used. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the personality traits of school administrators perceived themselves positively at the level of "partially agree", and the level of teachers' attitudes towards the school was at the level of "disagree". According to the results of the research, it was seen that the personality traits of school administrators did not differ in terms of gender variable, and the level of "responsibility" of school administrators with 20 years or more of professional seniority was higher than school administrators with a professional seniority of 1-9 years and 10-19 years. In terms of the length of service variable, it has been observed that school administrators with 7 years or more of service have higher "responsibility" levels compared to school administrators with 1-3 years and 4-6 years of service. In terms of education level variable, no significant difference was found between personality traits and education level. There was no significant difference between teachers' attitudes towards school and variables of gender, professional seniority, length of service at school and education level. It was observed that there was a positive, moderate, significant relationship between school administrators' five major personality sub-dimensions, extroversion, responsibility, agreeableness, and openness. It has been observed that there is a positive, moderate, significant relationship between the attractiveness of the school, individual satisfaction, adoption, and school climate, which are the sub-dimensions of teachers' attitudes towards school.
