A research on the application of mentoring in hotels managements

This study aims to inform about mentoring system, one of the administrative forms thathas also been discussed in our country in recent years, to increase performance, motivation,and efficiency of the managers and workers working in tourism enterprises in order toestablish an efficient mentoring system as well as benefiting from mentoring system in usingbusiness enterprises? own sources for forming positions of future managers and workerswhich is one of the most significant problems of businesses.In this study, how mentoring system is perceived by workers and manager candidates inhotels, what their expectations from this system are, how they see this system along with therelationship of these perceptions with personal, occupational and career development are to befocused. The main problem of this study is to find out whether the developmental process ofthe workers could be improved and time essential for that process could be lessened as well asinstitutionalizing this system in hotel enterprises.The sample of this study includes workers in all departments of three-star, four-star,five-star hotels in Antalya. The reason why Antalya has been selected as a research zone isthat it is one of the most significant tourism regions of Turkey and three-star, four-star andfive-star hotels are generally in this region. Questionnaire method has been employed in thisstudy.According to the data, it has been found out that personal, occupational and careerdevelopments of the workers and manager candidates in hotel enterprises could be improvedand time essential for this developmental process could be lessened. However, the biggestobstacle for mentoring system is that hotel enterprises have not been institutionalized, yet.Keywords: Mentoring, Couching, Tourism, Hotel Establishment
