Abstract (EN)

Effect Of Different Stimuli('Click', 'Tone-Burst' And 'Chirp') Applied in oVEMP, On Healty Adult Subjects Of Different Age Groups Our study was carried out at Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Hospital, ENT Deparment, Audiology Unit. This study is approved by the Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Hospital Ethical Comitee. (22.03.2016 with the number of 27/06) In this study, our purpose was to compare the oVEMP responses of healty adult subjects of different age groups according to amplitude and latency, using 'click', 'chirp' and 'tone-burst' stimuli. This study was performed with 66 volunteers with an age range of 19-60. Subjects with normal otoscopic findings and no history vestibular disease, average airway pure tone (500-2000 Hz) threshold less than 15 dB, type A tympanogram and normal acoustic reflexes were included in this study. During the applications; comparisons were made between the first negative wave (N1) and the following positive wave (P1) latencies and the amplitudes between the peak points of these two waves (P1- N1). The results of the applications were obtained respectively using the 'chirp' stimuli: right ear N1:5,9+/0,9 ms P1: 11,06+/-0,92 ms, P1-N1: 10,51+/-7,2(μV) and left ear N1: 6,03+/-1,05ms P1: 11,3+/-1,07ms, P1-N1: 11,93+/-7,33(μV) and using the 'click' stimuli: right ear N1: 8,68 +/- 1,44 ms, P1: 12,73+/-1,8 ms, P1-N1: 2,77+/-2,05(μV); left ear N1: 8,63+/-1,47ms, P1: 12,68+/-1,86ms, P1-N1: 2,86+/-1,94(μV), and using the 'tone-burst' stimuli; right ear N1: 10,01+/-0,86 ms, P1: 14,89+/-1,21 ms, P1-N1: 7,09+/-5(μV) ; left ear N1: 10,08+/- 0,88 ms, P1: 15,09+/-1,17 ms, P1-N1: 7,5+/-3,5(μV). According to the average values of N1 (ms), P1(ms) and P1-N1 (μV); statistically significant differences were found in all of the tree comparisons (p<0,05). This study showed that, oVEMP measurements had shorter latency, higher amplitude and morphologically clearer waves by using the 'chirp' stimuli in comparison to 'tone-burst' and 'click' stimuli. Therefore we consider that the 'chirp' stimuli is a reliable and usable stimuli in oVEMP applications. Keywords: chirp, click, oVEMP, tone-burst
