Abstract (EN)

In this study, 4-chloro naphtyl methacrylate basedmonomerwassynthesizedbyreacting 4-chloro naphtol with methacryloylchloride in the presence of triethylamine. Synthesis and characterization of 4-chloro naphtyl methacrylate-sodium montmorillonite nanocomposites were done. Synthesis of nanocomposites were done in three steps which are; purification and cation exchangec apacity (CEC) determination of clay, organoclay synthesis and nanocomposite synthesis. Pure clay was dried, its CEC is determined and than used in organoclay synthesis step. CEC determination was done as written in ANSI/ASTM C837-76 standard. In organoclay synthesis; surfactants were used which is long chained dimethyl N-octadeshyl ammonium chloride. Gallery distances of organoclay and nanocomposites were calculated by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis. Nanocomposite synthesis were done by in-situ polymerization. Composites; which contain %33, %46 and %67 clay by mass were characterized by XRD, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).
