Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the biodiesel production possibilities of anise (Pimpinella anisum L.), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare L.), coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) and cumin (Cuminum sativum L.) seeds, which are generally used for essential oil and spice purposes, were investigated. When the fatty acid profiles of these seeds are examined, it was seen that they contained high amounts of C18:1C6 (petroselinic acid) and C18:2 (linoleic acid), which were suitable for biodiesel production. In the study; it was aimed to compare the results for the possibility of biodiesel production from these seeds, which are rich in petroselinic and linoleic acid, by examining the fixed oil profiles both before and after the essential oils were taken. One of the two methods applied in the study; extracting the fixed oils of the seeds by cold pressing without any treatment, and then applying the water distillation process with the clevenger device to extract the essential oils from the pulp, as to the other method was to obtain the essential oils by applying steam distillation and to obtain the fixed oils by cold pressing the pulp. In order to see the availability of the fixed oils remaining in the pulp of the seeds from which the essential oils were taken, the method was carried out in two different ways in the thesis. In both applications, fatty acid profiles were examined, and in the light of results from the values obtained, the data that emerge in a possible biodiesel production were calculated. In the study, results in accordance with international biodiesel standards were obtained for both applications.
