Evaluation of job satisfaction and quality of life of health workers: Istanbul province case study

According to the types of services offered to employees by the health institutions depends on the quality of life and evaluation is important. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between quality of life and job satisfaction. Also the study has tried to stipulate which demographic characteristics may have an impact on job satisfaction and the level of quality of life. 36 public hospitals having a capacity of 50 beds and above surrounding the province of İstanbul was taken into consideration. 476 health workers were given the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), Turkish World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF) and by applying a questionnaire prepared by the investigator to obtain demographic information were used. Health care professionals in this study consists of Doctors, Nurses and Health Technicians. Doctors obtained the highest scores for employees in the field of study for job satisfaction and quality of life. Overall the majority of employees analyzed were found to have a moderate level of job satisfaction. It was found that employees are satisfied with their quality of life at a moderate level. Increase in age and years of service in the profession seemed to increase job satisfaction and quality of life. Also a significant positive realtionship was found between job satisfaction and quality of life. Keywords: health worker, job satisfaction, quality of life
