The effect of using scenario-based learning on students' attitudes to mathematics and achievement in primary school mathematics classes

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of teaching the 'Geometric Objects and Shapes' sub-learning are a with the Scenario-Based Learning method on the academic achievement and attitude towards the lesson of third grade primary school students. In the research, a quasi-experimental design with pre test post test control group, which is one of the quantitative designs, wasused. The research was carried out in a public primary school in Başakşehir district of Istanbul province in the second half of the 2022-2023 academic year. The study group of the research consisted of 62 primary school third grade students, 31 of which were in the experimental group and 31 in the control group. In the experimental group of the study, the lessons were implemented with the Scenario-Based learning method, while the control group was taught with the current curriculum. The 'Geometric Objects and Shapes Achievement Test (GCŞBT), Mathematics Attitude Scale (MBL) developed by Genç, Öksüz and Yüce (2022) were used as data collection tools in there search. In the study, ANCOVA (Covariance Analysis), which is used in inter group comparisons, was used to compare the data obtained with the achievement test and attitude scale in the experimental group in which Scenario-Based Learning was implemented and in the control group in which the teaching was carried out with the current program, and there lated samples t-test used in in-group comparisons was used. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the Scenario-Based Learning method increased the academic success of the third grade primary school students and there was a positive in crease in the irattitudes to wards mathematics. As a result of the research, the effects of the Scenario Based Learning method were investigated.
