ABSTRACT The Smart Phone Addiction, Internet Addiction, and Emotional Intelligence Related Features in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate the sociodemographic and clinical features associated with smartphone addiction, internet addiction, and emotional intelligence in adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods: Sixty-nine (46%) girls and 81 (54%) boys (totally 150), aged between 12-18 years, diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder were included in the study. The Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children--Present and Lifetime Version, the sociodemographic data form, the Smart Phone-Internet Usage Assesment Form, Conners' Parent and Teacher Rating Scales, Family Assessment Device, DSM-IV-Based Screening and Rating Scale for Disruptive Behavior Disorders, Young Internet Addiction Scale, Smartphone Addiction Scale, Bar-on Emotional Quotient Inventory, and Stroop Test were used. Results: Of all cases, 63 (42.0%) were classified as smartphone addicted, 36 (24%) as internet addicted. DSM-total scores in Conners' Parent Scale were higher in smartphone-addicted and internet addicted (p=0.008, p=0.010, respectively). The mean emotional intelligence score was lower in smartphone-addicted and internet addicted (p=0.044, p=0.042, respectively). Conclusion: The smartphone addiction and internet addiction have very similar characteristics, in adolescents with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The emotional intelligence affected the clinical pictures of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, internet addiction, and smartphone addiction.
