Abstract (EN)

Wooden flute instrument is the most outstanding member of "flute family" in various parts of Anatolia and in other different regions. This instrument is important in terms of its unique sound, attitude, performance technique and sound field. After wooden flute was introduced in instrument education curriculum in Turkish Music conservatories, a lot of difficulties were encountered. Because of not having a specific methodical foundation, it was started to be taught by the master to apprentice method and was tried to be improved with this manner. Although this method was tried to be improved; it could not be based on academic and systematic basis. Later on, academic studies were carried out and methods were written regarding this instrument. Thanks to these studies, besides notation performance, the importance of musical terms and nuance signs has emerged. Even though some terms and nuance signs in the music literature have been used in academic studies so far, these terms and signs could not fully reflect wooden flute performance due to regional performance differences. As a result, there is a need for a performance notation in wooden flute performance that could reflect local features, playing technique and nuance differences. In this respect, it has been revelaed that new musical terms and nuance signs should be introduced to our Folk Music. The terms and signs to be used in the wooden flute should constitute a systematic structure and be approved academically. In this study, the purpose is to create a notation system that would totally explain the attitude, character and performance technique of the wooden flute. In order to form this notation system, twenty nonverbal zeybek works belınging to Aydın region in TRT Folk Music repertoire archives were scrutinized. However, during the study, out of twenty works, seven works that could define the attitude, characteristic qualities and performance technique of the wooden flute. The aim of this study is to adapt the characteristic feature of Zeybek attitude to the wooden flute and to reflect the characteristics of Zeybek attitude to the wooden flute by developing a performance notation convenient for the wooden flute by means of seven nonverbal Zeybek works belonging to Aydın region.
