Alkarisi in Turkic world

One of the important elements of Turkish folklore is Alkarısı It is believed that during and after birth, kills the baby and he removes the liver of the puerperant and takes it to the nearest stream. The belief that Alkarısı is an evil female spirit has become widespread. However, his identification with the Nightmare belief showed that he was in a relationship with other mythical beings. Therefore, it has become clear that the field of existence is wider. Alkarısı has been found scattered in Turkish folklore, as it is almost entirely handled as a sub-title in folklore studies. Faith firstly attracted the attention of researchers in Iran and the Turkic world, and then took its place in world folklore studies. Thus, it has become the subject of research of different disciplines, leaving the field of folklore. The suspicions that it has a very deep history has included Alkarısı in the world folklore literature with the problem of its origin. Alkarısı, one of the most popular negative types of the Turkic world, has been attributed to other cultural circles over time. This thesis, which tries to solve these problems arising from the inability to deal with it as a whole and to show its big picture in the Turkic world, consists of four main parts. The first chapter, prepared by making use of different disciplines, deals with the problem of origin and tries to solve it. The second part shows the geographical spread of Alkarısı with its variants, based on today's political map. The third chapter deals with the protection and purification practices that the Alkarısı belief gave rise to. In the fourth chapter, all the materials obtained by taking Alkarısı type in the center are analyzed. The study argues that Alkarısı is one of the oldest figures of Turkish folklore and reconstructed the lost story in Turkish mythology in the light of the findings.
