Abstract (EN)
In this study the productivity and efficiency of Turkish food industry is examined. The data related to the industry, production, employment, and capital are used employing the Malmquist index, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and partial productivity methods to investigate the performance of the Turkish food industry. The production value is considered as output, while the capital and labor values are considered as inputs. The analysis covers the ten year period between 1999-2008. The results are presented in terms of partial productivity, efficiency, total factor productivity (TFP), and the changes in the components of these findings.After the discussion of the current state of the food industry, the results are evaluated. The results suggest that private enterprises are more efficient and productive compared with the public enterprises, the technological change is appropriate in both enterprises; however, public enterprises suffer from inefficiency due to the lack of scale economies.Key Words: TFP, Efficiency, Malmquist, DEA, Food, Turkey
