Turkey's relations with European Union and the Armenian question

Turkey?s relation with European Union has begun with the Ankara Agreement in 1963. One of the obstacles put forward by the Union during the process of negotiations is the Armenian Question. In this thesis primarily European Union and the Negotiating Process documents documents are scanned and it is concluded that this problem is imposed on Turkey to prevent its membership. The aim of the thesis is to examine how the Armenian Question constitute problem in Turkey?s membership and Turkey?s Foreign Relations with the members of the Union. The scope of this thesis will include how the Armenian Question is reflected in the European Union?s documents and how the Turkish Foreign Policy is related with the question and Turkey?s negotiation porcess. In the first part of this thesis; at first it will be indicated that Ankara Agreement signed in 1963 was the first step in the membership process and the rest of the this part will be focused on the relations between the European Union and Turkey after 1963. The main part of the thesis will talk about the problems Turkey faces during its membership process which the Armenian Question creates between the European Union, Turkey and the other members of the Union, since the Question is indirectly included in the negotiation documents.
