Abstract (EN)

This study inquires whether whether cultural full integration between Turkey and Europe is possible. As for the titles of this study, European identity, Turkish identity, common cultural, historical and geographical background and heritage have been discussed. Elements such as vague and non-defined border lines of European identity, uncertainty in the New World Order, multi-culturalist disputes, chaos, the nature of post-modernity, the Clash of Civilisations, uni-polarity and multi-polarity are plausible obstacles for cultural full integration between Turkey and Europe even the European Union. Loss of desire for high cultural climate of early Republican era, radical political mainstreams both in Europe and Turkey, departure from Enlightenment philosophy are also culturally influential facts. On the other hand cultural cooperation and collaboration between Europe and Turke are affirmative, thereby it must be maintained and developed. There are steps to be taken in order to affirm the Turkish image in the West. Steps which have been taken to realize these goals must be developed quantitatively and qualitatively. Moreover, we are European in one sense and we must make Europe feel it deeply because identity is concerned with feeling in modern sense.
