Examination of foreign language teachers' use of Web2.0 tools in their lessons

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to reveal the views of foreign language teachers about experiencing Web2.0 tools in their classes. The study was carried out using the phenomenology design, which is one of the qualitative research designs. In the 2020-2021 academic year, 20 foreign language teachers working in primary, secondary and high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education in various cities of Turkey participated in the research. The data were collected with a semi-structured interview form, and then the data were analyzed by making content analysis. According to the findings, the themes of the process of meeting and using Web2.0 tools, the preparation process of the participants to use web2.0 tools, the experience of Web2.0 tools, the suitability of Web2.0 tools to the curriculum, the problems encountered, the suggestions of the participants were found. The findings show that foreign language teachers generally met with Web2.0 tools through E-twining projects and then started to use them in their classes, they received in-service training to improve themselves in this sense, using Web2.0 tools in their classes made teachers feel happy, teachers using these tools revealed that they think they can appeal to their students called Generation Z. The results of the research were discussed and interpreted in line with the related studies; Some suggestions were made, such as having more in-service training for teachers, involving foreign language teachers in a project, informing teachers about Web2.0 tools during their university education, harmonizing textbooks and curriculum with Web2.0 tools.
