Determination of microorganism species isolated from wound samples and investigation of antimicrobial sensitivity

Abstract (EN)
Wound infections occur when the patient is infected with bacteria present in his own flora or in hospital environment. Wound infection agents vary according to the wound area and various risk factors. In this study, it was aimed to determine microorganisms and antimicrobial susceptibility isolated from wound swab cultures sent from various clinics. 3.748 wounded swab samples which were sent to the Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Medical Faculty Hospital Microbiology Laboratory between January 2016 and January 2018 were analysed retrospectively. Totally in 286 samples, bacterial growth was detected. Identification of bacteria and antibiotic susceptibility tests were evaluated by conventional methods and VITEK 2 (bioMerieux / France) automated system. The most common isolated agent was E.coli (%22.38), it was followed by S. aureus (17.83%) and P. aeruginosa (16.08%), A. baumannii (%10.84), Enterococcus spp. (%7), Proteus spp. (%7), Klebsiella spp. (%6.64), S. epidermidis (%6.64) ve Enterobacter spp. (%5.59). While the sensitivity of imipenem, meropenem, ertapenem and tigecycline antibiotics to E. coli strains was 100%, resistance to ampicillin was 87.8%. While 100% susceptibility to vancomycin, amikacin, tigecycline, teicoplanin, phosphomycin and diptomycin antibiotics in S. aureus isolates were determined, resistance to ampicillin was 81.3%. While the sensitivity to cefoxide and cefuroxime in P. aeruginosa were 100% and to colystine 97.5%, resistance to trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole was determined 91.7%. In this study, the distribution of microorganisms and susceptibility of antibiotic that cause the most common wound infections in our hospital were determined and it was found that gram negative bacteria were isolated more frequently than gram positive bacteria. The distribution of microorganisms and the presentation of susceptibility data are important both in terms of enlightening the empirical treatment of the agent and in preventing the increasing of resistance rates.
