Abstract (EN)

Chronotype, known as a circadian preference, may vary from person to person. Although a majority of people are intermediate type, evening type people closely linked with addiction behavior like food addiction. Food addiction is found to be more common in obese people who have difficulties maintaining their weight. This cross-sectional descriptive study was aimed to investigate the relationship between food addiction and the number of applications for a dietitian regarding the chronotypes of the participants. This study was conducted with 121 people who applied for a private nutrition counseling center in Istanbul between July 2021 and September 2021. People who are under the age of 18 and pregnant were excluded from the study. Anthropometric measurements, Morningness Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ), Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS), and a questionnaire consisting of general characteristics and eating habits of the individuals were applied and collected. As a result of the study, the prevalence of food addiction was 15% in a sample. A significant difference was found between food addict people and non-food addicts in terms of Body Mass Index (p=0.023). While there was no relationship between food addiction and chronotype score, evening type was seen more commonly in food addict people. Regarding the number of applications for a dietitian, the highest application number was observed in food addict and evening type people.
